Portrait of Twila, The Rebel Nurse, smiling warmly.

Helping people reconnect with themselves after life changed them.

Hi, I’m Twila.

I’m a Somatic & Intuitive Wellness Educator, founder of The Rebel Nurse, and creator of Return to Self — a pathway for Finding Your Normal Now.

Life can change us in ways we never expected. Through trauma, grief, stress, caregiving, illness, loss, and life’s many transitions, there can come a point when we no longer feel connected to ourselves or quite know what we need now.

I know that feeling well.

Much of my own journey has been about learning how to reconnect with myself after life changed me. Through years of healing, reflection, rebuilding self-trust, and learning to listen inward, I came to understand something important:

Healing is not about becoming who we used to be.

It is about developing a relationship with who we are now.

That understanding became part of the foundation for The Rebel Nurse and Return to Self.

My work through Somatic & Intuitive Wellness is rooted in lived experience, trauma-informed awareness, somatic practices, self-reflection, self-trust, creativity, and inner knowing.

I don’t believe my role is to give someone my answers or tell them what their path should look like. My role is to offer a safe place to land, walk beside them, and provide practices, questions, education, and support that can help them listen to themselves and discover what feels right for them.

Return to Self grew from that philosophy — a gentle, grounded pathway for slowing down, noticing what is happening within you, understanding what you need, and taking one small step at a time.

You don’t have to become who you were before.

You can begin getting to know who you are now.

What guides this work

What I Believe

I believe healing does not have to be rushed, forced, or performed. It can begin gently, through Awareness, Regulation, Integration, and Embodiment.

I believe people do not need someone else to decide what healing should look like for them. Sometimes what we need most is a safe place to land, enough space to notice what is happening within us, and support that helps us listen to ourselves again.

This work is about strengthening self-trust, understanding what you need now, and discovering your own next step in a way that feels supportive, manageable, and true to you.

One small step can be enough to begin.
